Pat paints the sky, sea, and the very rural area of West Virginia where she lives. Although she has been painting intermittently for most of herlife, she started painting full time in 2012. She studied art for three years at the University of Alaska Southeast, with an emphasis on three-dimensional art.
For more than 20 years, she has been painting with acrylics. She usually starts a painting with an underpainting and then develops the color with glazes and scumbling. This process works for plein air because acrylic paint dries so quickly and even opaque pigments tend to be transparent.
Pat is influenced by American and French landscape painters who worked in the 1880’s and by contemporary seascape painters.
